2010 Conventions

I'm still trying to decide which conventions I want to go to this year. I was thinking about Conflikt, but it's a little late to start planning that one. Consonance is looking viable, but I'd have to pay a bit for a cab ride from the airport to the hotel unless I fly into the closer airport, but then the flight time is awkward. Meh. I'll figure it out.

Also in March is MidSouthCon in Memphis. It's drivable, but is the weekend right after Consonance. There's DragonCon and ConStellation in August, OVFF in October, Windycon in November, and a few other cons I'm interested in scattered throughout the year. My attendance will be a function of cash, vacation time and energy.

I'll definitely be at DragonCon because I'm an eternal member and I'll definitely be at ConStellation because I can visit my family that weekend (they all live in Huntsville). I really want to go to more filk conventions this year. I really enjoyed GAFilk this year. Which filk convention is the one that I definitely shouldn't miss?

I'd vote for Consonance ;-)
(OVFF is a great con, too, though ... I wish we could make it this year ...)

I'm leaning toward Consonance now. I'm a huge fan of Alec, and I'd get to meet you!

You could do ConCarolinas, which should be big this year since it's Deep South Con, or you could go to Reconstruction, which will be the NaSFiC this year (since Worldcon is in Australia and DANGIT!, I won't be able to go!!!).

Reconstruction would be an 8 hour drive. It's doable, though. And ConCarolinas is even closer.

Plus, since Reconstruction is a NASFiC, you'll have a better chance of meeting filkers you wouldn't meet at a local convention or a filk convention, because they don't all travel everywhere, but some will do a NASFiC or a Worldcon.

How do you feel about Pittsburgh? Confluence has a filk track that's a filk con all by itself. Randy puts 25 hours of filk programming into a 2-day convention, 18-20 or which are concerts. Then there're the authors & art show, which are excellent. The Saturday night play is typically a musical mash-up of 2 sf classics. Last year it was "The Girl In The Firefly", a Firefly/Dr. Who crossover.

Duckon also has a filk track made of awesome.

We're planning on the Nasfic.

I'm thinking maybe 1-2 cons I have to fly to and as many more as I can drive to. :-) NC is certainly drivable.

Maybe we'll see you there then!

Are you coming to the March housefilk?
